Hockey player Lalit Upadhyay will participate in the Pro Hockey League in Britain before participating in the Paris Olympics. He will leave with a 30-member team on May 14. Currently taking part in the ongoing camp in Bangalore and this camp will continue till 13th May. Lalit is the second player from Kashi to qualify for the Olympics for the second consecutive time.
Teams from five countries including Belgium and Britain will participate in this Pro Hockey League to be held in Britain before the Paris Olympics. After this, Olympics will be played in Paris in July-August this year. Before this, the pool of teams is determined on the basis of points scored in this Pro League. Satish Upadhyay, father of Bhagatipur resident Lalit Upadhyay, said that this is a matter of pride for Kashi.

Hockey Varanasi President Dr. AK Singh said that Lalit Hockey was started from UP College. Lalit Upadhyay is the second player from Varanasi to play two consecutive Olympics. Earlier, Mohammad Shahid had represented India in three Olympics. This is Lalit’s second consecutive Olympics.
Earlier, Lalit was a member of the Indian hockey team in the Tokyo Olympics. In this the Indian team had won the bronze medal. Taking inspiration from him, Varanasi women’s hockey team has become UP champion after 21 years. Lalit plays from the center forward position. He has scored more than 100 goals in international matches. Lalit’s wife Deeksha Tiwari is also a national level hockey player.
